The Baptist Church at Lake Spring was constituted in the year of 1812, making it the oldest church in Simpson County. At that time it was attached to the Red River Association and continued in that association until the year of 1829, at which time it united with the Bethel Association. When the Simpson Baptist Association was organized in 1900, it became a member of that body. The first place of worship was a log house built on the land of Robert Martin. This building was occupied until 1859, when the church decided to build a new house of worship. A site was selected a few hundred yards south of where the original house stood on land given by Galloway Caudill.
In the year of 1953, a building fund was started for the purpose of building an educational building at the rear of the old church. The educational building was built in the summer of 1954 and dedicated on September 19, 1954. Thomas L. Lewis was pastor at that time.
On December 2, 1956, a committee was appointed to investigate the possibility of building a new auditorium. Those appointed were: Harold Atwood, Charles Oslin, Claude Walker, W. L. Chisholm, and Jerry Burysek. Dedication services for the new auditorium were held November 3, 1957. This is the building now occupied by the church. On August 9, 1987, the congregation celebrated the anniversary of its 175 year ministry to the community with a special homecoming day entitled "175 Years of Proclaiming the Gospel."
Under the leadership of Phillip Rowan, the membership increased to 206, and the church called its first salaried music director in 1988. Following the resignation of Phillip Rowan, J. V. Case is serving as interim pastor.
