Boonesborough Ferry
Picturesque old ferry at Boonesborough, the oldest in Kentucky, established by an Act of the Virginia Legislature in October, 1779. The small clump of saplings on the shore right opposite the ferryboat marks the point where the Boone and Callaway girls were captured by the Indians on that memorable day, July 14, 1776. The site of the fort at Boonesborough is on the opposite shore, to the left of the road.
