Davis W. Huckabee
Baptist Minister and Author

Davis Weldon Huckabee was born on March 27, 1932 and passed away on June 1, 2019 at the age of 87. He was born in Woodrow, Texas to Davis West and Maude Estelle Stewart Huckabee. At the age of 17, Davis asked Jesus to save him from his sins and be his Savior. After graduation from high school, he entered the military. He served in the Air Force from 1952 to 1955 in the Korean War. He was in the 463rd Communication Squadron and became the chief operator at the MARS radio station.

He attended the Orthodox Baptist Institute, Ardmore, Oklahoma from 1956 to 1959. While there, he felt the Lord calling him to preach. On December 11, 1955, he surrendered to the call to preach. He graduated from OBI in 1959 with a Bachelor of Theology degree.

Davis married the love of his life, Bettye Robertson on August 2, 1957. They were happily married for 57 years as they served the Lord together. Davis was in the ministry for 56 years and pastored three independent churches: First Baptist Church, Kirk, Colorado from 1959 to 1969; Immanuel Baptist Church, Wellington, Kansas from 1969 to 1982; and Heritage Baptist Church, Salem, Ohio from 1983 to 2014. While pastoring in both Wellington, Kansas and Salem, Ohio, he had a radio ministry. He retired at the age of 82 and moved to the Fort Worth area.

Davis was a prolific writer, authoring several books on Baptist doctrine, a book on poetry, several manuscripts of romantic fiction (written under a pen name) and numerous tracts. He wrote a two-volume Studies on Church Truth, The Origin and Nature of the Church, Studies on Strong Doctrine, Studies on the Harmony of the Gospels, Studies on Bible Hermeneutics, among others.

He loved gardening and had lots of trees, flowers and vegetables everywhere he lived. He would freely share his harvests with people. And many people received apple cakes and apple pies on a regular basis; everyone from doctors to the postal workers.

Preceded in death by his wife, Bettye, his parents, four brothers and two sisters. Surviving is his son, Bryan Huckabee (Mary Jean); daughter, Beverly Dotson (Glenn), five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
