First Baptist Church
Tekamah, Nebraska

First Baptist Church was founded in 1858, our church is the oldest Baptist Church in Nebraska. Only four years after Nebraska was declared a US territory in 1854, and three years after Tekamah was incorporated in 1855, the Baptist church in Tekamah, First Baptist Church was officially organized in 1858. It has been continuously holding services ever since.

This was the result of the work of Rev. J. M. Taggart, a Baptist missionary who helped form a Baptist Society in Tekamah in October of 1856. It was those early meetings that led to the organization of the group into First Baptist Church in the fall of 1858.

In 1953 a majority of the members of the nearby Silver Creek Baptist Church joined First Baptist Church. The church building of Silver Creek was moved and added to the First Baptist Church building, doubling the size of the church.

Our church has remained a vibrant witness in the community and beyond throughout the years and into the present day.

Our current building, on the same ground as our original building, was dedicated in 1980.

Our church has continued proclaiming the Gospel, hearing the Word of God preached clearly and practically, and singing the praises of our God from our beginning. We are looking to the future, with a new pastor and a forward looking outlook. We have faith that God will continue to work in Tekamah to bring us closer to Him and to bring His Gospel light and salvation in Jesus to all we meet!
