DRIPPING SPRING BAPTIST CHURCH MINUTES

December 14th, 1850
By appointment the following members from the United Baptist Churches of Union and Pleasant Grove met to organize a Baptist church at the school house at Dripping Spring Logan County Kentucky on Saturday before the third Sabbath in December 1850. After preaching by Brother William J. Morton, Brother John W. Mimms was appointed moderator (pro tem) Brother Thomas M. James clerk (pro tem).

The members being called for the following names were entered:

James A. Page by letter from Union church
James O. Boyer by letter from Union church
Samuel W. Page by letter from Union church
Robert Bagby by letter from Pleasant Grove church
William Page by letter from Pleasant Grove church
Russell Miller by letter from Pleasant Grove church
David W. Mimms by letter from Pleasant Grove church
William Saunders by letter from Pleasant Grove church
Sarah A. James by letter from Union church
Mary Mimms by letter from Union church
Priscilla Page by letter from Union church
Mary Miller by letter from Union church
Louisa Page by letter from Pleasant Grove church
John D. Saunders by experience at a previous meeting
Drewry L. Mimms by experience at a previous meeting
David Mimms by experience at a previous meeting

After prayer the hand of fellowship was given by Brother William Morton and the Deacons of Pleasant Grove Church (viz) brethren Edward Mosely and Daniel Maddox.

Then proceeded to the selection of three Deacons by private ballot and brethren William J. Page, Thomas M. James, and James O. Boyer being chosen were ordained. A motion was made and carried that brethren James O. Boyer and Thomas M. James act as clerk alternately, and Brother Boyer to act the first year. The constitution was then read and adopted which read as follows:

Dripping Spring December 14th, 1850

"We whose names are hereunto subscribed do hereby solemnly give ourselves in covenant to the Lord and to each other adopting as our constitution rule of faith and practice the Word of God as recorded in the sacred scriptures of the New and Old Testament and also express(?) our belief that the articles of Faith adopted by the Baptist Bethel Association are deduced from the Word of God and contained in the Old and New Testament."
It was then agreed that we would meet for worship the second Sabbath in every month and the Saturday previous for business then adjourned.

December 26th, 1850 By appointment the church met and after preaching the doors of the church were opened by Brother John Mimms and the following came forward and were received:

Nancy Toler (?) by letter from Union Church
Mary E. Joines by experience at a meeting previous to our organization
Lucy Herndon by experience at a meeting previous to our organization
Louisa Ann Joines by experience at a meeting previous to our organization Nancy Bagby by experience at a meeting previous to our organization
Roberta Bagby by experience at a meeting previous to our organization
A motion was made and carried that a Pastor should be selected by private ballot and Brother James B. Lamb was selected and the Deacons were requested to see Brother Lamb and ascertain whether his services could be procured or not. A motion was made a carried that the Deacons tender to Brother lamb a voluntary subscription gooten up for the support of the ministry and also procure more to said subscription if they can then adjourned.

Thursday Night January 2nd, 1851 After worship the doors of the church were opened and John W. Adams was received by experience at a meeting previous to our organization, then adjourned.

Saturday before the second Sabbath in February 1851

After preaching the doors of the church being opened William Page and Amanda Page were received by experience and Sally Lewis by letter from Union Church. A motion made and carried to have communion every other meeting and to commence at our regular meeting in March next.

A motion made a carried to take charge of the house by turn for three months each commencing now. Brother William Page 1st, J.O. Boyer 2nd, Robert Bagby 3rd, James A. Page 4th.

A motion made and carried that the expenses of the church shall not come before the church at the regular meeting.

A motion made and carried that the Deacons have a desk made and make necessary arrangements for the communion then adjourned.

After worship proceeded as follows: Brother Samuel Hudnall and his wife Elizabeth Hudnall and Franklin Saunders were received by letter from Pleasant Grove Church. Adjourned.

After worship proceeded as follows: Brother William K. Whitlow and his wife Elizabeth Ann Whitlow were received by letter from Antioch Church.

1851 September Conference

The church met and after worship by Elder Lamb the doors of the church were opened for the acceptation of members - none joined. 2nd appointed John W. Mimms to write a letter to the association. 3rd appointed brethren John W.

Mimms, Thomas M. James, and William Saunders to bear the letter to the Association. 4th agreed to send one dollar for posting (?) minutes. Adjourned.

Saturday before the second Lord's Day in October 1851

After worship the doors of the church were opened and James W. Moore was received by experience. The delegates appointed to bear our letter and petition for admittance into the Bethel Association which met at Bethel Church in Christian County Kentucky on 27th September 1851. Report that we were received into this association. Adjourned.

After preaching by Brother Lamb the ordinance of baptism was administered to Aaron Bagby, Morticia (?) Bagby, John Mimms Jr., Andrew Price, James W. Moore, Eliza Jane Bagby, Mary Price, Sarah Price, and Catherine Miller.
