The Circulars from the Georgia Baptist Association represent some of the best early doctrinal essays from this state. Jesse Mercer was one of the leading Baptist pastors and writers in early Georgia; the university in Macon is named in his honor.

     The Serepta Circular indicates what was considered some of the serious issues on the early frontier among Baptist churches.

     Also, many of the miscellaneous writings of Jesse Mercer from the Appendix of his Memoirs are included. Some are portions of Circular Letters and other essays.
