Georgia Baptist Convention, 1847
From the Religious Herald.
      This body convened at Savannah, l4th. Hon. Thos. Stocks was elected Moderator, and Prof. P. H. Mell, of Mercer University, Secretary. Delegates were present from fourteen Associations, and various Missionary Societies. From the annual report it appeared that over $11,000 had been contributed the last year for different benevolent objects.

      The Trustees of Mercer University presented a report on the condition of that Institution. It has an endowment of $138,200; and in addition, a fund of over $28,000, for the education of indigent young men, candidates for the ministry.

      There are in the State, fifty Associations, over one thousand Churches, comprising upwards of sixty thousand members. Additions by baptism the past year exceeded four thousand. Ordained ministers, 510; licentiates, 174.
