M Garnett for attending the races & suffering his own horse upon the ground to run, and keeping a fiddle - The matter taken up & continued until next meeting & Brethr'n Rowland Botts & Robert Cornelius appointed to converse & inform him on the subject -

The reference respecting Bro. Jno. M Garnett taken up & the Brethren appointed to see him report that they attended to the subject & he failing to attend - he is found guilty of sin and it is agree'd to be continued until our next meeting -

The reference respecting the ordination of Bro. Botts as a deacon taken up & the Brethren appointed to request helps from our sister churches reported they had done so and the brethren in attendance as follows: from Sand Run Breth W Whitaker, B Watts & Cave, Montague, from the forks of Gunpowder Breth Lewis Conner, Edw'd Atkins & Lewis Crisler, from Middle Creek Breth Wm R. Garnett, Ezekiel Rice, Dorchester Merrick, the council being convened the church unanimously make chosen if Bro. Botts & the council calling on Bro. Botts to know wheter he is willing to serve the church - his answer is in the affirmative - the council concerning it is agreed now to proceed to the imposition of hands only Botts, W Whitaker & Robt Kirtley & charge by Bro. Lewis Conner which is accordingly perform'd

Bro. Jno. W Yeager requests a letter of difsmifsion for himself and his daughter Elizabeth which is granted

It is made known to this Church that Esther an old black member, belonging to Bro. E Graves has departed this life since our last meeting

A request is rec'd from the church at the forks of Gunpowder by Bro. E Atkins for helps to meet this church on the 3rd Satturday in this month to set a council & aid them in the ordination of a deacon, the matter was taken up & agreed to answer the request by sending Breth R. Kirtley R. Botts, M Wilks & Willis Graves as helps.

M Garnett was taken up and he having failed to attend & hear the church - He is Excluded which exclusion is for being guilty of the charge alledged against him respecting Horse racing & for failing to attend & hear the church - the charge respecting the fiddle not being taken into consideration as it is stated to the church that he neither own'd or play'd upon it He only permitted others to use it -

It is reported to the church that helps approv'd to attend the church at Forks of Gunpowder all attended & that Bro. Jno. Underhill was set apart & ordained as a Deacon of that church Upon application a Letter of Difsmifsion is granted to Bro. Archalaus Craig

Gaines & Willis Graves are appointed as mefsengers to bear s'd letter: & that we petition for the next afsociation to be at Bullittsburgh

On motion it is agreed that Breth Robt Cornelius and Willis Graves be appointed to see Bro. Pew [Pugh] Price and request his attendance at our next meeting which on account of his long absence and removal from among us -

On motion of Bro. R. Kirtley It is agreed that we take into consideration Bro. Joseph Botts preaching gift - and also the Subject of his ordination as a minister of the gospel - It is agreed that this matter be postponed until our next meeting as a reference

Bro. Robt Kirtley Mod'r Bro. Abrahem[?] laid in a complaint against William a Black member belonging to W Robt. Willis for having been charged and probably guilty of purloining and it not being practicable to deal with him said William he having been sent down the river

On motion it is agreed to postpone the matter and Breth Ean[?] & Abrahem Graves be appointed to enquire into the matter & ascertain the facts in relation thereto & report to our next meeting

The reference respecting Bro Pew Price was taken up & Bro. W. Graves reported that he had seen Bro Price and communed with him on the Subject of his long absence & removal from away us - & that Bro. Price acknowledged that he had been remifs in not attending our meetings more frequently and gave some reason for not having attended - & states that that he had rather continue a member of this church than to get a Letter - & that he was dis___[?] to come & see us & attend our meetings when he could - & it appearing to the church that Bro Price could not attend today. On motion the matter is postponed until our next meeting

Bro Jno. Gaines ______ & read a Letter to the afsociation which upon filling up the blanks is adopted as our Letter

The reference respecting Bro Jno. Botts preaching gift & of his ordination as a minister was taken up - & the church unanimously exprefs a desire to encourage Bro Botts in preaching after which Bro Botts gave a relation of his hope of salvation ___ through Christ & also his views & imprefsions about the preaching of the gospel which was satisfactory & the church by a unanimous vote exprefs a desire that Bro Botts be set apart & ordained to the ministry to which Bro Botts replied that as it is the wish of of his Brethren for to be ordained - he hopes to have

The reference respecting Bro William taken up and Bro A. Graves reported that he had seen Bro. William, that he had return'd and acknowledged to the charge and appeared to be penitent & exprefsed a wish to attend the church but his being absent the matter is continued until our next meeting.

The reference respecting Bro. Price was taken up and he being absent the matter is postponed until our next meeting.

The reference respecting Bro Jos. Botts being ordained to the ministry taken up and the day being so rainy that but few of the helps from our sister churches are in attendance - Therefore it is agreed that if the helps should generally be in attendance on to morrow and the church should then think it advisable to attend to the subject, to do so, if not the matter to be cer__? until our next meeting, & the same brethr'n that were appointed to request helps from our Sister churches be again appointed to request helps from the churches to attend at our next meeting on Saturday & Sunday -

Bro George Gaines reported to this church that Sister Elizabeth Shephard had departed this life since our last meeting -

On motion of Bro. E'd Graves that the church set apart the last Wednesday in this month as a day of humiliation and pray'r & fasting to almighty God that he would revive his religion in our land and proud hearts and that he would avert his calamity (which has appeared to runous [?] to us,

The reference respecting Bro. Joseph Botts ordination to the ministry taken up and helps from our sister churches attended as follows. From Middle Creel Breth'n Wm Garnett. Jam. Ryle Jno. Ryle Elijah Hogan Dorchester Merrick & Jno. Brady - from The forks og gunpowder, Breth'r Lewis Conner Edw'd Atkins and John Underhill - from Dry Creek Brethren Jno. Arnold Robt. Walton & James Robinson and from Sand Run Breth William Whitaker Cave Johnson Cave Montague Wm. McCoy and Benj'n Watts and from East Bend Breth'n Jefse Terrell and Wm. Kirtley - Bro. Larkin Ryle being present was invited to sit with us. the church then exprefsed a desire & willingnefs for Bro. Botts to be ordained as a minister and refered the matter to the to the helps in attendance, who organized themselves as a committee by appointing Bro. Kewis Conner their Mod'r & Bro. B Watts clk after which bro. Botts being requested gave a full relation of his views in respect of preaching and also of his faith of the gospel the question was then taken by the helps and resulted in a unanimous voice after reflection that they were satisfied with Bro. Botts - all of which they refer to the church

The ordination of Bro. Joseph Botts to the ministry took place __ably[?] to the agreement of the church and helps on yesterday in the following manner

Bro. Wm M. Gaines laid in a complaint against sister Rofsa Worrell for living in adultery with a man. The matter was taken up and from the information rec'd she is found guilty of sin and she being absent the matter is postponed & Breth Wm Suggett & R graves are appointed to see & cite her to attend our next meeting -

Bro. E Graves laid in a complaint agst Bro. Tom a black member belonging Sister E. Watts for having runaway from his Mistress & this church the matter was taken up and he found guilty of sin & being absent & out of reach of this church he is excluded

The reference respecting Bro. Pugh Price taken up and he being absent it is agreed that it being pospon'd and breth'n Michael Glore Absalom Graves& Willis Graves be appointed to see Bro. Price and make known to him the charges or complaints that this church has against him and request him to attend our next meeting

The reference respecting Bro William was taken up and he being present and heard he is found guilty of sin, and he [blurred] making such acknowledgment and confefsion as are satisfactory to the church he is restored to ^the/ full fellowship of the church

On motion of Bro R. Graves for the church to appoint two other deacons the matter is taken up and the church is unwilling to make any appointment at this time.

A request rec'd (by Bro. W. Kirtley) from East Bend Church for helps to meet them at their next meeting to aid them in the ordination of Bro. Jefse Terrell to the ministry it is agreed to answer the request & Brethr'n Jos. Bro Joseph Botts reported that the helps appointed by this church at our last meeting to attend the church at East Bend all attended except one & that Bro Jefse Terrell was ordained to the ministry -

Upon application - Letters of Dismifsion are granted to Bro Asa Kirtley & to Bro Lyman Spencer & sister Sally his wife who have all removed to Indiana

On motion it is agreed that the Bros Deacons ap[p]ortion as near the sum of Twenty Dollars as they can on the free white male members of this church & Report the same at our next meeting.

On motion it is agreed that Brother Demas Moss be & he is appointed as a moderator of this church & to act as such in turn with the other Bro moderators.

On motion it is agreed that this church have often observe & have stated meeting on the 3rd Saturday in each month for prayer and supplication.

The reference respecting Bro. Peter Price was taken up a letter from Bro. Price rec'd & read stating his being too unwell to attend today. On motion the mat[t]er is postponed untill our next meeting.

Brethren Robt. Kirtley Demas Moss Joseph Botts Willis Graves Roland Botts James Gaines Ed'd Graves & Ruben Graves are appointed Messengers to next association.

Brethren George Gaines Jno. Terrell Edward Graves Roland Botts and Absaolom Graves are appointed a committee to attend to have the seats fixed for the accommodation of the next association, and also to attend to the keeping of good order so far a practicable during the days of the association.

Agreed that we request the association to meet an hour earlier than this. Order of business on preaching during then session for the purpose of prayer to Almighty God that he would revive his work of grace among us, and that the members appointed to prepare the letter to the association insert the same in it.

Bro. R. Hirtley reported a Letter to next northBend association which read is approved & adopted as aces Letter.

On motion of Brother A Graves the church agrees to express her views & wishes in relation to the preaching of Bro. Asa a black who is licensed by this church to preach, & in order that the members of this church gene[r]ally may have a better opportunity of hearing Bro Asa preach hereafter. It is agreed that he hereafter when it is practicable have his appointments to preach published at our meetings at this place & when opportunity serves preach in our meeting house. Bro. Roland Botts is appointed to see Bro. Asa & inform him of the wishes & request of the church on this subject. It is however understood that the Bro. will have no meeting within bounds of this church at the time of our 1st & 3rd Sunday meetings.

Bro. Roland Botts laid in a complaint against bro. Wm. Hensley for getting in to an affray and intoxication, the matter taken up and he found guilty of sin by a vote of the church Bro Edw'd Graves and Robt. Cornelius is appointed to cite to our next meeting.

Reported that our beloved Bro. Willis Graves a member of this church departed this life of the the Palsy the 12th day of Nov. last at about 4 oclock A.M. after illness of about 7 hours.

Obituary Notice of W. GRAVES

He was born the 12th day of October 1790 in Maddison County Va. And removed to this County in the spring of 1797. He made profession of religion and joined this church in February 1811. Since his orderly walk and pious conversation (in the multiplicity of great temp. and affairs) has endeared him to his Christian brethren.

He was appointed clerk to this church in 1826 and also a member to the Northbend association in the same year the association appointed him their Clerk which office he was continued in during his life and discharged them to the entire satisfaction of his brethren. If, he had any one distinguishing Christian virtue which shone above the other it was that solumn injunction the great Apostle gave his Hebrew brethren - But to do good and to communicate, forget not-

It is reported to this church that Sister Hannah Parker and Sister Elizabeth Gaines has departed this life since our last meeting.

A letter of dismission is granted to Bro. Jefferson Lantz he being about to move to the state of Illinois.

On motion it is agreed to take up the refference from our last October meeting in relation to a resolution of the N.Bend association at the last session respecting of raising a fund to defray the expenses of our corrisponding Brethren who attend distant association as messengers.

The matter investigated and by a vote of the church agreed to concur with the resolution of the association and also agreed to contribute five dollars for that purpos[e].

Peter Cropper has removed his residence from the bounds of this church and that he expected to be at this meeting and apply for a letter of dismission but had failed. Therefore it is agreed that on the application of Bro Cropper to the clerk of this church for a letter he is authorized give it.

Bro. R. Botts Absalom Graves & John Gaines is appointed to a committee to examine our meeting house roof and report at our next meeting what repairs they think it requires.

On motion Bro Joseph Botts R. Botts John Gaines & Jas Gaines is appointed to examine the list of our members names and report those at our next meeting that have moved away and have not obtained letters of dismission.

The committee appointed to examine the meeting house roof reported that the south side required recovering and that the north might do for some time by some repairing. The matter taken up and agreed to receive the report, and Brethren George Gaines Roland Botts & A Graves are appointed to have the work completed, and also with Bro Early to assess on the church the probable amount of the cost of the same, and also the ordinary expenses of the church and report at our next meeting.

Mitchell, Letty to Mrs Ryle, Cuffey to Noble Heins, -- The matter taken up & Bro Robt Kirtley appointed to write Sister Ann M. Elliott a friendly letter, and Bro Robt. Cornelius appointed to write to Fanny Heiatte, James Heiatte and Miranda Heiatte, & bro. James Gaines write to Frances Cornelius, and that bro George Gaines to try to assertain where Sister Rachel Lynn has moved to and write her a letter, and that Bro John Gaines assertain whether Sister Massa is yet living, and that Bro A. Graves try to assertain where Sister Myra lives and her standing, and that Bro. M. Clore assertain the standing of Bro Cuffey. . . and all to report to the Church as soon as they conveniently can.

Reported that Sister Letty has been removed from this State to the Lower Country. Therefore as we can know nothing of her standing, now she receives many benefit from the society of this church if she is yet living. Therefore it is agreed that she now be considered not a member with us.

July Meeting 1835

At a meeting of the church at Bullettsburg meeting house first Saturday in July 1835

The committees that were appointed to have acer[tain] meeting house roof repairs reported that the work was completed and also reported a bill of expense for repairing said roof amounting to $31 and 25 cents which was received by the church - and the Bro Deacons to pay off s'd bill as soon as they have a sufficiency offer of the church's funds in there hands.--

The Brethren that were appointed to make an assessment on the free white male member of this church reported they had apportioned 49 dollars and 75 cents which was also rec'd by the church.

Reported that Bro Richard Graves has departed this life since our last meeting.

Received a letter from Bro. James G. Hiatte and Sister Miranda Hiatte his wife requesting letters of dismission and also making satisfactory acknowledgement for their long absence from this church. Agreed to grant there request.

On application of E'd Graves, a Letter of dismission is granted to Sister Elizabeth Cornelius.

Bro. R. Graves is appointed to prepare a Letter to our next association and report it at our next meeting and Brethren Robert Kirtley Joseph Botts Ew'd Graves Whitfield Early Reuben Graves & James Gaines are appointed messengers to said association.

August Meeting 1835

At a church meeting held at Bullettsburg meeting house first Saturday in August 1835
Bro. Joseph Botts- modr

Bro. R. Graves presented the letter to the association which was read and approved by the church.

Bro Robert Kirtley who was appointed to write a friendly letter to Sister Ann M. Elliott Reported that he had wrote her letter, and since he had a conversation with her, & she gave reasons for the long absence which was satisfactory to this church.

Bro John Gaines who was appointed to assertain whether Sister Massa a black member of this church was yet living, he reported that on inquiry he was informed she was yet living at her former residence which report was received ty the church.

Agreed to have a meeting commencing the friday before the first Saturday in October and the incert [sic] it in our letter to the association that we wish as many of our preaching brethren to attend us as conveniently can.

Reported that Bro James Graves has departed this life since our last meeting.

Bro John W. Graves who obtained a letter of dismission from this church has returned the same, and wishes still to be considered a member with us.

Bro Roland Botts is appointed a messenger to the association in addition to those all ready appointed.

September Meeting 1835

At a church meeting held at Bullettsburg meeting house 1st Saturday in Sept 1835

Neither of our moderators being present Brother Wm Whitaker from Sand run was invited to act as moderator for us.

Bro Michael Clore who was appointed to assertain the standing of Bro Cuffee a black member who has moved out of the bounds of this church -- Reported that he had seen the Bro. and had a conversation with him and assertained that he had been living for come considerable time in disorder - sutch [sic] as drinking to mutch spiritious liquors and swearing -- the matter taken up and Bro R. Cornelius appointed to see Bro Cuffee and request his attendence at our next meeting.

Bro Michael Clore made known to this church that Lewis a black member of this church belonging to Mr. Balsly has been sold and carried off out of our reach, and where as it is reported that he had been guilty of some immorrel [sic] conduct and Brethrn E. Graves and Jas Gaines is appointed to inquire in to the matter, and report at our next meeting.

State of Indiana, Monroe County
The Church of Jesus Christ eternal holding the doctrine of the general union whereas our beloved Brother and Sister Elias S. Maston and Lucy his wife is about to move from our bounds. To whom these presence may come this is to certify that they are in Good Standing and full fellowship with us and dismist from us when joined to a mother church of the same faith and order.
Signed by order of the church at our day of business the 2nd Saturday in June 1832.

Also by the request of Bro. John Terrill Letters of Recommendation was granted to himself and wife and three of the Black family (to wit) William, Anderson and Dafney.

The reference respecting Bro. Lewis was taken up and Bro. Edw'd Graves who was appointed to enquire into his case Reported that he was of opinion that he had Stolen Some goods and also had departed from the truth respecting of them -- And where as he has been Sold and is out of reach of this Church and is not practicable to deal with him according to her [the churche's] rules. It is therefore agreed that he be considered no more a member with us.

On application of Bro R. Botts letters of dismission are granted to Bro Elias Masters and wife and Sister Margaret Botts.
