[The following records of January, 1839 - December, 1840 were transcribed by Mrs. Betty Baldwin of Grace Baptist Church, Georgetown, KY.]
At a church meeting held at Bullettsburgh meeting house on the first Saturday in January 1839.

The brethren that were appointed to see Sister Lynn reported that they had attended to the order of the church and that they ascertained from her that she had joined a body of people known as Presbyterains not in union with us and that she still wishes to continue with them. The mater taken up and investigated and she found guilty of sin and satisfaction not obtained is excluded.

The brethren that was appointed at our last April meeting to have our meeting house doors & winders painted reported that the work was done and the cost was $8.00, which report was received by the church. Brethren Conner & Whitaker (to wit) to preach.

Agreed that we adjourn from business and invite Bro. Joseph Terrill now with us from Missouri to preach for us.

William Huey as Deacon to meet with them at their next church meeting, second Saturday present instant, the matter was taken up and Brethren Robt Kirtley, A Graves, Roland Botts & Edward Graves were appointed to attend accordingly.

On motion agreed that the church meet in Petersburg, 3rd Saturday in this month and that the door of the church be opened for this purpose of giving an opportunity to any person offering to become a member of the same, either by letter or any way customary with the church.

Bro. Robt. Kirtley, chosen to write a letter to our next association and present the same at our next regular church meeting.

Reported that Brother George Gaines a member of this Church departed this life on the 26th of June 1839, in the seventy third year of his age. He was born the 29th of October 1766 in Madison County Virginia, removed to Ky in the fall of 1795. He joined this church by Experience of Baptism in June 1800; where he remained an orderly member, a good citizen, and useful neighbor, until his death.

The letter to the association by Bro. Robt. Kirtley was read and approved.

Brethren Robt. Kirtley, E. Graves, R. Botts, E. Grant, A. Graves, & J. Gaines chosen messengers to the Association.

The death of our aged and beloved Sister Conner, was reported at this meeting, who departed this life in phageast in the State of Indianna in the 81st or 82nd year of her age. She had long lived a member with us, and was esteemed by her acquaintants, for the kindness and Christian walk and motherly affection in to end.

Alice a Black woman belonging to Sister Polly B. Acre formerly a member of the Baptist Church at Blue Run Virginia of which satisfaction being given that she had, obtained a letter, in full fellowship and that the same had been lost, and also given to the church the reason of the hope she has in Christ was received a member with us.

Bro. Edward Graves informed the church that Sister Lucetty Winston has joined the methodist denomination, a body of people not in union with us. The matter taken up and Brethren R. Botts and A. Graves is appointed the Sister, and request her attendance at our next meeting, if she feels willing to do so.

Received Robert Kirtley join by Experience for baptism. [He was later known as Robert E. Kirtley].

Bro. E.[Ezra] Ferris asked for letter of dismission for Asa and Rachel his wife (colored members of this church) which was granted. [Ferris was a physician in Lawrenceburg, Indiana and had been a member of Columbia BC (Cincinnati), the first Baptist in the Northwest Territory. These slaves were automatically freed when they moved to Indiana.]

The date of the acception of James A. Kirtley for baptism is seconded wrong. The record was not made til after his baptism on the first Lords day in November, and then through mistake, it was dated at that meeting. Should have been dated the third Wednesday in October.

The Bro. Deacons reported the funds of this church are nearly exausted, & also reported they had aportioned the sum of $20.25 cts. to be paid by the free male members of this church, which was received by the church & placed in their hands for collection.

On motion agreed that publick servises to commence with us at 11 o'clock A.M.

Sister Barbary Morrell departed this life since our last meeting.

Bro. R. Botts moved that Bro. Daniel James be considered a preacher of the Gospel with us and also to act as moderator in turn with those already appointed. The matter taken up & unanimously agreed too by the church.

On motion the Bro. Deacons drew up a subscription for the purpose of raising a fund to procure wood, & pay for the keeping the meeting house for the preavent [present] year & to engage some person to keep the same.

Whereas the following letter addressed to this church was handed in by a brother whose name is annexed to the list as applicants for the purpose of constituting a new church which letter is as follows to (wit)

To the Church at Bullettsburg Brethren we the undersigned members belonging to your body, after having had the subject under consideration, believing that it will best for all concerned, and the good of Zion do hereby respectfully request of you the liberty of uniting with other brethren of our denomination in constituting ourselves into a church of Jesus Christ at such time and place as may be agreed upon by those concerned, if upon proper consultation had with brethren called for that purpose it should be thought advisable so to do. John Gaines, Polly Gaines, James Gaines, Nancy Watts, Cove Clave, Richard Gaines, Elizabeth Gaines, Ellen Bruce, Mary Jane Gaines, John G. Gaines, Nancy Hamilton, Sally Goodridge, Susan Wilhoit

The matter taken up and after some investigation agreed to grant therein request as afore said.

Brethren John H. Walton and Joseph C. Graves were added to the number of signing clerks.

Where as the church being with a clerk, our former clerk having obtained liberty with others, to leave the church to join a new CONSTITUTION, the subject of the clerkship was proposed by brother Absalom Graves, the matter taken up by the church, and an election held by private ballet, when upon brother Joseph C. Graves was elected and invited to take his seat.

On motion of bro Wm Grant a letter of dismission is granted to Sister Kitturah M. Huston she being about to move to Missouri.

At a meeting of the church at Bullittsburg Saturday 7th of Nov 1840.

Bro. Rowland Botts laid in a complaint against George, a black member of the church, belonging to Allen Morgan, for purloining and departing from the truth. The matter taken up and posponed for a short time, as he is not present but is expected to be in attendance today.

Bro. George failing to attend the matter is again taken up and bro. Anderson B. Watts is appointed to see him and cite him to next meeting.

It is reported to this church by bro Edward Graves, who was present as a spectator, that all the members that were dismissed in Sept. last for Constitution from this church were constituted into the Church of Mount Pleasant, at the house of bro Richard Gaines except sister Nancy Hamilton who is still a member with us.

The refference respecting George, a black member, taken up he being present, and failing to give satisfaction, but upon motion the matter is posponed until next meeting and brethren Absalom Graves and Angus Gaines agree to make further inquiry, as respects the charge against him and report at next meeting.

Bro. Benjamin A. Gaines, received by letter of recommendation from the church at Little Blue River.

It is made known to this church that a part of the churches composing the North Bend Association, have left that body, therefore it is thought advisable by this church that that matter be enquired into. Whereupon, Brethren Robert Kirtley, Rowland Botts, and Edward Graves are a committee to draft resolutions purporting the property of all council of the churches and report at our next meeting.
