During much of 1883, while the church was without a pastor, the pulpit was ably filled by Dr. J. A. Broadus, Dr. J. P. Boyce, Dr. Basil Manly, and others, from the Theological Seminary, at Louisville. . . . They travelled by train on the weekends.
